jews for abdul with abdul wearing a nice suit

This initiative is an open call to Jews everywhere to help elect Abdul El-Sayed to the Senate in Michigan! Our big-tent of volunteers holds a wide array of perspectives from individuals and organizations. What we share is our support for Abdul and our rejection of the slander Trump and MAGA uses to divide the American Jewish Community. Mike Rogers would be another dangerous rubber stamp for fascism and authoritarianism, and we will not sit on the sidelines in this generational fight for our rights, freedoms, and democracy. We will be knocking doors in Michigan's capital, Lansing, from October 1-Nov 3, as well as in the Detroit area Oct 9-12 (Fri-Mon), Oct 16-19 (Fri-Mon), and Oct 30-Nov 3 (Fri-Tue). See important details below.

How would you like to get involved?
Have you already submitted an intake form to doorknock in Michigan this fall with Seed the Vote? If not, please do so at stvote.org/J4Adoorknock
If you're joining via a partnering organization, please select that organization as your branch in the intake form.

Seed the Vote mobilizes volunteers to doorknock in critical races across the county. We are a group of Seed the Vote volunteer leaders who, working in coordination with Jewish organizations, are inviting Jewish volunteers to canvass with us in Lansing and in the Detroit metro area.

Why Michigan? Why Now? Why Us? Abdul’s opponent, Mike Rogers, is a committed Trump politician whose campaign is using Islamophobia, racism, antisemitic tropes and false charges of antisemitism to scare both Jewish and non-Jewish voters in Michigan and prevent them from voting for Abdul. It will be a powerful statement for Jewish volunteers to come to Michigan, demonstrate their support for Abdul and Will, and show that we will not fall for the fear-mongering and attempts to divide us.

How Seed the Vote Works: We work with community organizations on the ground to support candidates in swing districts to flip seats and take back control of the House and Senate from Trump and MAGA. We recruit volunteers, who will be trained and supported on the ground when they arrive. Volunteers will be trained in relational canvassing, a voter contact method that emphasizes listening, the exchange of personal stories and curiosity to build trust and connections at the door.

You will stay at a hotel with other STV canvassers and launch from one site each day. In Lansing, Seed the Vote Super Volunteer, Amanda Berger will welcome and support you.

When: Seed the Vote will be on the ground in Michigan from Sep 18 through Nov 3 (A minimum of two days is required for those coming in from outside Michigan, half-days are available for local volunteers on weekends). Everyone is more than welcome to doorknock anytime during this period, though Seed the Vote Jews for Abdul will run from Oct 1 through Nov 3.

Where:

  • Lansing: Sep 18 - Nov 3
    • *For the weekends of Oct 9-12 and Oct 16-19 (due to a lodging shortage in Lansing during those dates), any new Michigan signups will be canvassing in the Detroit area. If you were already signed up to doorknock in Lansing for Oct 9-12 and Oct 16-19 and have had your trips confirmed, you will still doorknock in Lansing for those dates.
  • Detroit area: Oct 9-12 (Fri-Mon), Oct 16-19 (Fri-Mon), and Oct 30-Nov 3 (Fri-Tue).
    • *For the weekend of Oct 30-Nov 3, you may sign up for either Lansing or the Detroit area.

Financial Aid: Seed the Vote may be able to help with financial support as needed for volunteers who can canvass for 3 or more days. Please indicate on your doorknocking form if money is a barrier to your participation, and we will work to address this.

Other ways to support this effort:

Fundraising: Seed the Vote is committed to ensuring that cost is not a barrier for anyone who wants to doorknock, so we offer financial support for hotels & travel for those who need it to volunteer with us. However, we need to raise the funds to ensure that we are able to cover these costs. Our goal is to raise $180,000 to support this project.
